Suicide Prevention Community Champions

Getting Staffordshire talking about their mental health and saving lives.

We've joined forces to promote the Staffordshire-wide #TalkSuicide campaign.

We're leading a team of Suicide Prevention Champions working in their community to get more people talking about their mental health and prevent suicide across the county of Staffordshire.

We invite and welcome members of the community to join us in our Community Action Group to respond to local needs and support with both raising awareness and preventing suicide.

How can I get involved?

Through Community Action Groups run in Stoke-on-Trent, Cannock, Stone, Stafford, Burton, Lichfield, Uttoxeter, and Newcastle-under-Lyme. For more information on these and to get involved, contact Sophie Henaughan: [email protected].

Community Champions

Community Champions are people that invest their time working within their local community to share messages of hope, signpost into services and identify community needs. Community Champions positively challenge both myths, language and stigma around suicide.

We believe suicide can be prevented through open and direct conversations. We call this approach Real Talk. We want to make it easier for people to talk about suicide and mental health.

Resources

We have a range of suicide prevention resources available including a booklet for those at risk of suicide and people who are worried about someone with advise on how to access support. These resources can be made available to anyone in the local community and organisations across Staffordshire.

See below for our guides on helping people you suspect might be thinking of taking their own life, and if you're feeling in a bad place yourself.

For more information or to request any literature please contact Sophie Henaughan via phone 07425781931 or email [email protected].

Just Say Something

If you think someone may be feeling suicidal, just say something.
Just saying something is better than saying nothing. It might just save a life.

E-books

These e-books has been created by Brighter Futures, and designed to be a source if you are concerned about someone else.

Very often suicide is seen as a taboo subject and consequently people are fearful of talking about it. The truth however is that by simply talking and/or listening to someone who is thinking about suicide can in itself be life-saving.

If you're struggling in yourself:
